Summary: This rich collection of items brings the history of Bordeaux back to life. In 1962, the town of Bordeaux decided to change its archaeological stone museum into a museum of history, archaeology and regional ethnography: it was consequently given the title of the Aquitaine Museum. From 1970, the town of Bordeaux planned the installation of the Aquitaine Museum in the old faculty of Arts and Sciences, inaugurated in 1886. Opened to the public in 1987, the Aquitaine Museum is situated right at the heart of the town, near to Place Pey-Berland and the cathedral. The extent of its collections allows visitors to revive the history of Bordeaux and their region, from the prehistoric times to the present day and age, and pays tribute to the bonds between this town and its hinterland overseas. |
