Summary: La vie est belle In 1867, the Paris of Napoleon III welcomed visitors to the Universal Expositon. Certainly they were there to visit the great gallery of machines and take in the beauty of the city of lights, but many came just to soak up the ambiance and enjoy the high life that Paris had to offer! Meeting in fashionable places like the Grand Hotel and the Café Anglais or flirting with the ladies of the street, for after all a lifetime of love could be consumed in one week...those who came to Paris in this time, drank from all the pleasures that life had to offer, taking advantage of being lost in the big city where all one could want was available...for a price! And from the midst of this great cultural orgy, Jacques Offenbach found his inspiration, presenting on stage, that which he observed on a daily basis. Created in the fall of 1866, La Vie Parisienne became and instant success and was known the world over in just under five years! |
