The new cathédrale de la Major was built by Léon Vaudroyer between 1852 and 1893 in a Romanesque-Byzantine style Its exotic style and beautiful interior are reminiscent of Eastern churches.
Its the largest cathedral built since the Middle Ages.
It was built on the site of the Gaul Batisphery and is next to the former Major cathedral, which lost two bays in the mid 19th century.
