Summary: A French myth... French superstar Alain Bashung came into music early, at age five, thanks to harmonica practise and inspiration from a Kurt Weill record. At age 19, his career took off somewhat slowly with a dozen or so single-track records. In 1979 Bashung came out with a dark and definitely rock album named Roulette Russe - this was the stepping stone of his success from 1980 onwards. In 1981 his second opus, Pizza, was produced and led him to tour some of the French capital's more nototious concert halls such as the Olympia. After a short spell in the world of cinema after 1994, he came back to his true calling in 1998 with Fantaisie Militaire (winner of three Victoires de la Musique awards in 1999). In 2002 his album L'Imprudence won over critics as well as audiences. Bashung's latest album, Bleu Pétrole, came out in March of 2008. |
