Summary: Abstract sculpture? Originally from New York, Gottlieb is a painter who contributed greatly to that particular abstract art movement in America in the mid-20th century known as abstract expressionism. Clearly drawing inspiration from the artwork of Arizona-based Native-Americans, his style is peculiar, based on the Pictogram concept of the early 40s before shifting to a style of abstract painting that over the years became his trademark. This unique exhibition take a different tack, with a particular focus on his sculpture work which was a tentative phase of his career in 1968. |
