Summary: A moden palace
Costructed on behalf of Richelieu, this palace was passed down to Louis XIII upon the death of the Cardinal. The palace has a rich past: Philippe IV transformed it and installed adjoining cafes and commerces making it a fairly popular meeting point in the city. The Palace was also historically important during the Revolution before it became a national building in 1793. For awhile, it was owned by the Orléans family who then gave it back to the State in 1871 who used it to house various government institutions.

In 1985, when Daniel Buren installed columns in the courtyard, a great debate was sparked. In 2000, this location became another important link between history and modernity with nightclubs and other nocturnal hideouts taking up residence and the glass installation by Jean-Michel Othoniel. |
