Summary:
Popular symbols of the Latin Quarter include: Saint-Michel Fountain, the Panthéon, the Sorbonne and the Odéon intersection. One of the reasons this is such a popular neighborhood is the fact that the riots of May 1968 hit a nerve with the political and intellectual ideas of its time. The area is still known as an intellectual hot spot thanks to its many universities such as the Sorbonne and the College de France. Additionally, the place of Grand-Hommes near the Panthéon is a classic meeting point for students in the city as is the Saint-Michel fountain since it is a crossing point between cultural distractions and intellectual growth. The area is not far from Notre Dame nor the numberous restaurants of Odéon. |
