Bicentenary of the Birth of Louis Braille |
Summary: The birth of a great man.
January 4th is a special day, being the birthday of the founder of Braille, a system designed to offer visually-impaired people a chance to read. Louis Braille was a hero in his own way.
This interesting personage, himself blinded early in life, put together this tactile alphabet to help others in his situation. His major preoccupation was communication between the blind , the visually-impaired and so-called normal people.
January 4th is considered a day to celebrate his monumental achievement, but also a day of understanding and tolerance.
Modern infrastructure, while having come a long way, have yet to be 100% equipped in this sense while seemingly simple things, such as the internet, remain foreign worlds to those who must read with their fingers.
