Paris' emblematic monument will be celebrating its 120th birthday this year! The Grand Iron Lady, as she has been nicknamed, was raised between 1887 and 1889 by Gustave Eiffel. Or rather, it was raised by a mechanized system according to his designs...
With its 324 metres it was at the time a feat of engineering meant to be taken down after the exhibition, and yet there it is, shooting up from the horizon... A whole programme of events and activities has been scheduled throughout the year to give all a chance to commemorate the construction of this mythical edifice.
