Description
Breaking away from literary elitism.
The Book Fair in Brive-la-Gaillarde attracts over 120 000 visitors every autumn. It remains one of the most important cultural events of the year as it is the second largest French literary event after the Paris Book Fair. The Georges Brassens hall will be packed with 500 writers presenting works in every imaginable genre or format: comics, novels, young adult, children's lit, poetry, etc. This major book fair was already innovating as early as 1973 when organisers decided to work with the commune of Brive-la-Gaillarde more closely, and with local libraries, book shops, and literary associations. At the time, books could be bought from a wheelbarrow, while the publishers and authors would be welcomed by locals inhabitants. The mission statement of this major event has always been the same: to bring authors and readers closer together, to help them connect, in a beautiful setting...
