Information on the ski resort

L'Alpe d'Huez is a big ski resort in the Northern Alps, part of the ski area Les Grandes Rousses. Located in Isère, about 40 miles from Grenoble and only 4 hours from Paris by train, the resort enjoys an ideal location, especially since it is south facing, which means a lot of sunshine.

As part of the wonderful Ecrins Massif, Alpe d'Huez has developed since 1936 to become today one of the largest ski areas in France: 250 km of slopes, 2223 m difference in altitude, 120 slopes and 80 lifts.

All types of skiing are possible in Alpe d'Huez : the most confirmed skiers will enjoy the longest black slope of the world, Sarenne, 16 km long and 1800 meters difference in altitude. They will also enjoy beautiful off-piste skiing areas such as the Combe du Loup, the Grand Sablat or Roche Melon. Please note that it is only open to confirmed skiers

Gentle slopes of the lower area will enable beginners to learn safely while snowboarders will enjoy a snowpark, 2 boardercross and a half-pipe .

Near Alpe d'Huez are the villages of Auris-en-Oisans, Huez en Oisans, La Garde, Oz en Oisans, Vaujany and Villard Reculas. They offer to the visitors, after skiing, a wide variety of activities : culture, sports or relaxation.

These villages have kept their traditions and still practice transhumance with 370 cows and more than 2,000 sheep which graze the 10 000 hectares of the ski resort in summer and avoid then, piles of herb that cause avalanches .

Alpe d'Huez, which is also known for its famous ascent in many Tour de France cycling, is a resort where all the pleasures of skiing can be enjoyed!
