A small, intimate family-run hotel set in the picturesque medieval village of Gensac, near to Saint Emilion.
The hotel offers peace and tranquillity along with a warm welcome from your hosts Steve and Veronica Parker. The hotel offers great value for money and an excellent base from which to discover this wonderful area.
Les Remparts is one of the focal points of the medieval village of Gensac, sitting next to the 11th Century Church of Our Lady. Gensac is a small village with a thriving local community who offer a warm welcome to visitors.
The village itself is perched on the edge of the hillside overlooking a peaceful valley. The cobbled streets and old castle walls provide a romantic setting.

Surrounding Area
There are some intriguing towns to explore such as Sarlat, Domme and the caves of Proumeyssac. For the more energetic, cycling is an ideal way to see the vineyards and the wonderful countryside. The hotel has bicycles for hire if you wish to cycle independently, or they can organise trips to take advantage of the magnificent location. There are numerous opportunities for canoeing and boat trips along the breathtaking River Dordogne.
Just an hour's drive to Bordeaux and you can visit the fifth largest city in France, with its landscaped quays and pedestrian promenades, with history dating back to the 14th century. The coast and beaches lay about 90 minutes away, and there are many lakes for bathing and water sports within easy reach. Contact the hotel directly for more information. |
Transport
By Car:
- The hotel is about 20 minutes away from St Emilion which is just north of the D936.
- Gensac is situated south of the same road between Castillon la Bataille and St Foy la Grande.
- When you get to the village, look for the church spire. There is private parking in front of the hôtel.
Bergerac Airport is 40 kilometres away and Bordeaux is 60 kilometres away. |
Restaurants
Les Remparts has been recognised in the major food guides of France such as Michelin and Gault Millau, so don't forget to take advantage of the cuisine during your stay. The menu is based on classical French cuisine along with some other interesting dishes.
During the warm summer months, guests can enjoy eating on the terrace that overlooks the organic vegetable garden and the Dureze valley. Taste the best the region has to offer whilst enjoying the most magnificent sunset across the valley.
Breakfast includes freshly baked croissants served with homemade jams and marmalades, pastries and crusty bread along with fruit and yoghurts and is served until 10.00. Lunch is served from noon until 14.00 and the evening service is from 19.30 until 21.00.
Please note that apart from July and August, the restaurant is normally closed on a Sunday and Monday evening, however arrangements can be made directly with the hotel to ensure guests don't go hungry. |
