Description
History :
Located in the Berry, considered as one of the castles of the Loire, replacing several other prestigious buildings such as a Roman villa in the 3rd and 4th century, a castle in the 10th century ... the Valençay castle is historically interesting because of its famous owner in the reign of Napoleon, Charles Maurice de Talleyrand. He organized receptions recognized throughout Europe, welcoming official ambassadors, musicians and painters of renown. Under order of Napoleon, Valencay also served from 1808 to 1814 of gilded prison for princes of Spain in exile. It was here that the treaty giving the crown of Spain back to Ferdinand VII was signed.
Architecture :
Far from being just a place where historical events took place, the Castle Valençay is also a masterpiece of the Renaissance. With its French gardens and a landscaped garden on an area of more than forty acres, this superb residence offers a multitude of treasures. The majestic entrance pavilion, its imposing tower, corner towers and dome, its pilasters and capitals inspired by the three Greek rules, its arched gallery, ... are all elements which constitute its beauty and its international reputation. Evidence of its diversity, in addition to its stylish Renaissance buildings, the area also contains some neo-classical buildings such as the farm, the forge, the backyard, ... However, if the castle has been transformed over the centuries, it keeps a consistent look and smooth, sometimes surprising by its asymmetry but with a breathtaking beauty.
Castle life :
With a hundred rooms (25 apartments master) often decorated with Empire period furniture which can be admired by the public, Valencay does not only have an architectural interest but also represents an interesting source of information on lifestyle, decorations and objects of that time.
A mixture of culture and pleasure :
Furthermore, more than a castle and a high place in the history of France, Valencay is a huge park where young and old can find happiness. The castle and its actors, the various gardens, the labyrinth of Napoleon, the Forest of Princes, the Orangerie restaurant, the small farm, the picnic area, ... are many pleasures to offer to each visitor an opportunity to spend a pleasant, entertaining and informative day.
