Green lung of the Ile-de-France, the forest of Fontainebleau, extends over 20,000 hectares, and offers a rich variety of landscapes.

Located just one hour from Paris, the Fontainebleau forest, formerly known as Bière forest became royal forest in the eleventh century. A first wave of plantations was then initiated by Colbert in 1664. Plantations were carried on until the eighteenth century.

Based on a 35 million-year-old sandy layer, the forest of Fontainebleau offers an exceptional diversity. Landscapes and landforms are very diverse and marked by the presence of sandstone rocks.
