If you go near Strasbourg, you will discover, 35 km from there, the city of Oberhaslach, where there is a magnificent waterfall : Waterfall Nideck, near a castle located at 534 meters, in the heart of the Hassel Valley . It's in the Vosges forest, made of pines and sandy soils,that you can hear the first sounds of the Nideck waterfall .

This place was immortalized by the great poet of German origin, Chêne von Chamisso who wrote on "Giants of Nideck". This 25 meters high waterfall, lining the rock faces of an hercynian chain offer a amazing sight in a very romantic place, made of rocks and dense and dark vegetation .

It's a legendary site, well preserved, and offering, for the more adventurous ones, hiking in the lush greenery and historical discoveries. We may discover the trails leading to waterfalls and ruins of the castle and the Nideck forest house. Near rivers and streams, we can see, on the tower, the plate Chamisso, a panoramic view overlooking the 440 meters high Hirschfels.

Then the presence of the castle Nideck reminds us the legend of the giants of the castle, which inspired in 1816, the Brothers Grimm's book of legends. This text was the beginning of the story, written by poet Adelbert von Chamisso, which was called "The Giant's daughter". It is the story of a couple of giants who lectured their daughter who thought that men were toys. Her father told her she should not hurt them because these men worked for the giants by cultivating the land of Alsace.

This castle is listed as an historical monument. It is located near the Nideck waterfall which flows from the top of a wall that is home to ancient ruins - which are more than 560 million years old - with chains of mountains and rocks that are part of the natural history of this region. From its summit, one can discover the Bruche Valley which is a site laid out for all visitors. This so romantic waterfall is really enjoyable place to visit, summer and winter.
