La Darse Villefranche-sur-Mer : Villefranche-sur-Mer Tourism

La Darse de Villefranche-sur-Mer possède une très longue histoire. Elle a toujours été un port naturel mais celui-ci fut fortifié dès 1550 à la demande du Duc de Savoie. En 1713, ce dernier devient roi de Sardaigne, la darse devient donc un « Port Royal ».

À partir de cette époque d'autres équipements et bâtiments sont construits autours du port : le phare, l'arsenal, le bassin de radoub, la forge, puis la corderie, le bagne et la caserne des officiers. La darse servait d'atelier de construction pour les galères et de lieu de regroupement pour les forçats avant leur embarquement pour Cayenne.

À présent, la Darse est devenue un très beau port de plaisance où l'on trouve encore les marques du passé grâce aux bâtiments qui sont toujours présents.
