Installé dans la chapelle et une partie de l'ancien hôpital (XVIIIe) acquis par la famille Jouve dés 1907 pour yabriter des fragments lapidaires trouvés aux cours des démolitions et des travaux de voierie. En 1946 le musée est organisé par le musée Calvet héritier de la famille Jouve, réaménagé à la suite de trouvailles en 1948 et réoganisé en 1975.
