Description

The Museum of Fine Arts bears the label of France. Located at the head of the cathedral, the Museum of Fine Arts of Chartres is installed in the buildings of the old Episcopal Palace, dating mainly from the fifteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. But it's at least since the twelfth century that the bishops of Chartres have resided in this location.

The museum exhibits throughout the year with rich collections of ancient and modern art including works by Zurbaran, Chardin, Vlaminck, Soutine, a collection Oceanic and harpsichords throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.



Opening days and hours:

Every day except Tuesday and Sunday morning

from 10 am to 12 pm and from 14 pm to 17 pm (November 2 to April 30)

from 10 am to 12 pm and from 14 pm to 18 pm (May 2 to October 31)
The museum is closed on January the 1st and May the 8th, and November the 1st and 11th, December 25th.
