Les collections et l'hôtel qui les abritaient ont été léguées par Henri Dupuis à la ville. Les céramiques et notamment les belles faiences de Delft ont été transférées à l'hôtel Sandelin. en rervanche les collections d'histoire naturelle sont venues compléter les séries déjà abondantes du musée Dupuis.
