Description

Louis Feron, local politician, horse dealer and art lover, has donated his personal collection of works of art to the city in 1929. The Municipal Museum of ivory was founded in 2001.
More than 200 pieces of ivory are exhibited in the first room. Visitors will find representations of historical figures (Henry II, Marie de Medici, Napoleon 1er ...), but also shrines statues, objects of folk art (beggars) and daily (jewelry, tobacco grater). They can also enjoy a range of Chinese and Japanese characters and, closer to home, a collection of fishermen Pollet (Pollet neighborhood of Dieppe).



It is also a stage of the Route of Spices and Ivory, which extends from Eu to Havre, from Dieppe, Fecamp and the Pays de Caux.



The Feron’s collection is not only composed of ivory. Indeed, a second room proposes to discover two other materials: pottery and terracotta.



This room, named Louis Feron tribute to the generous donor of the collection, presents various pieces of pottery and porcelain from various eras. Dishes, incense burners, plates, but also representation of characters and famous people (fishermen, loves, Voltaire ...) are all works exhibited. To discover such a fountain of Rouen faience dating from 1750, enthroned above the marble fireplace. Many of these works were previously not accessible to the public. With two campaigns of restoration parts that were damaged by time are now visible to all, so the collection is exhibited in its entirety since July 2006.
