Ancien musée Bernus, installé en 1947 dans un hôtel du XVIIIe, s'est enrichi en 1964 du legs du comte Victor de Sobirats dont il prit alors le nom.

Le musée installé dans l'hôtel du Chateauvieux (XVIIIe) a gardé le caractère des nobles demeures d'autrefois avec en particulier trois salons Louis XV et Louis XVI au premier étage , décoré avec des tapisseries d'Aubusson.
