Fondé à la suite du don de l'expert des musées royaux,Thomas Henry en 1835, le musée a été enrichi par le legs du peintre J-F. Millet, complété par le legs de M Ono, oncle de la femme de l'artiste.

Architecture
Le bâtiment en fer à cheval, construit en 1983, abrite le centre culturel et le musée, accolés à un théâtre de 1880.

Une collection de 300 peintures italiennes et des écoles du Nord. Un parcours de l'art français de Clouet jusqu'au peintres troubadours. Le musée présente en particulier une trentaine d'oeuvres de Jean-François Millet né à La Hague en 1814, l'oeuvre de Guillaume Fouace et les sculptures de Le Véel.
