L'ensemble des meubles et objets domestiques de la famille Verger-Tarin a été réuni au XVIIIème siècle, puis enrichi au XIXème siècle et complété par des acquisitions ultérieures. L'ensemble a été cédé à la Société éduenne des lettres, sciences et arts en 1933, qui en a fait don à la ville en 1954.
