Avignon : Avignon Tourism

La création de ce musée fût l'oeuvre d'Esprit Requiem ( 1788- 1851) naturaliste avignonnais qui donna en 1839 ses importantes collections d'histoire naturelle et sa bibliothèque. Il fût aussi Directeur du musée Calvet et Inspecteur des Monuments historiques ce qui lui permit avec l'appui de son ami Prosper Mérimée à s'opposer à la destruction des remparts d'Avignon.

Après l'ancien monastère de Saint-Martial, les salles du musée Calvet , le musée occupe depuis 1925 l'hôtel de Raphélis de Soistans du XVIIIe.
