Ariège is a region rich in remains from prehistory, so the general council of the area decided in 1994 to build the Museum of Prehistory. At the heart of a park, this unique area was designed to enhance the Ariège prehistoric wealth in a funny and educational way: children and adults will find many sources of discovery and culture.

The 13-hectare park is surrounded by a breathtaking landscape, a mountainous cirque with the Pic des Trois Seigneurs and the Sédour massif. Many activities of the museum are discovered outside, through a path in the park consisting of workshops: the prehistoric camp workshop, the wall art workshop, the hunting workshop, the archaeological workshop and the traces workshop. The different stages of the journey teach the way of life and art of the Magdalenian Men with a playful and modern approach .

Inside, visitors will have the chance to see paintings dating back thousands of years. Between light and shadow, the museum of prehistory offers a journey into the art of this period. With headphones, people evolve at their own speed and in the order that suits them, listening to the information provided on this ancient art.

The "Grand Atelier" has a facsimile containing the complete works of the "Black Room" of the Niaux cave. Hundreds of paintings there are over 12,000 years old!
