L'un des observatoires de la Côte d'Azur est situé juste au-dessus de Saint-Vallier, sur le plateau de Caussols : prendre la direction de Castellane par la RN85. Après 2 km, tourner à droite, direction Caussols, jusqu'à l'observatoire situé sur un plateau calcaire parsemé de dolines (cavités creusées par l'eau dans la roche) au milieu d'un paysage presque lunaire. Il est intéressant de redescendre ensuite sur Gourdon par la D12, superbe petite route sinueuse avec de très beaux paysages et traversant des forêts méditerranéennes d'une grande sauvagerie.
