Avec sa place centrale à arcades (XVIe et XVIIe siècles) et la disposition de ses rues en damier selon un plan orthogonal établi par les moines de Lérins, toutes se coupant à angles droits à l’intérieur d’un rectangle, il mérite le détour. Au Moyen Age, le village était fortifié, mais sans remparts, les maisons du périmètre extérieur constituant les fortifications avec des murs épais percés d’ouvertures étroites. Nombreux passages sous voûtes, souvent bâtis (pontis), venelles typiques où sont installées aujourd'hui de nombreuses boutiques.
