Located at the foot of Mont Ventoux, between Carpentras and Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Pernes-les-Fontaines is an old medieval town whose origins date back to Gallo-Roman period. It had been the capital of the Comtat Venaissin from the tenth century until 1320.

Since the seventeenth century, the fountains have multiplied, thanks to the abundant springs in the area. The city has 40 public fountains, and 120 private fountains ! The most famous of these 40 springs are those known as the Gigot, near the Ferrande Tower, and that of the Cormoran, located next to the open hall.

Called "The Pearl of the Comtat", this little Provencal village, has retained traces of its glorious past with many historical monuments: Twenty-two of these monuments are listed or registered Listed Monuments. Among these prestigious vestiges, fourteen mansions from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, chapels, a Romanesque church, the door of Notre Dame, the covered market from the seventeenth century. Also, the Ferrande tower which dates from the eighteenth and in which you can admire beautifully preserved frescoes from the same period.

For the nostalgic, the Museum of Comtadin Costume where costumes with lace, petticoats and other old linens are kept and relive every four years during the Heritage Day. The Museum of the Old School to the Valayans will take you back to the days of old school with its wooden benches, its tiled ink pots, its pens... As for the cycling museum, you will learn that that the derailleur to change gears was invented there.

All this provides a rich history and great heritage for this Provencal village full of many gardens, streets, shaded squares.
