A world heritage city
Most of Bordeaux's heritage is a legacy of the eighteenth century. Proud of it, the city has managed to preserve and enhance it. It was also rewarded for its efforts when more than 1800 hectares of the city were listed in 2007 as Unesco World Heritage as an exceptional urban area.
This beautiful city has the largest pedestrian street in Europe (1.5 km) which delights shoppers, a beautiful botanical garden, dating from 1858, which invites to stroll, and major monuments such as the Grand Theatre, St. Andrew Cathedral, Rohan Palace or the monument dedicated to Girondins.
A city where culture plays an important part
Bordeaux is a very active city where learning, research and culture are very important. There are four universities, 14 colleges and more than 5,000 researchers. Looking to the future, the city has created, in the 60's, a major aerospace division. For culture, Bordeaux offers a journey in time through art and human history. It offers 7 museums free every day and for all as well as temporary exhibitions costing only 5 euros per person.
