Corte or the heart of the "Corsican nation"
The town of Corte was long known for hosting the cultural center of the whole region of Corsica. This small town in the heart of the department of Corsica about 70 miles from Bastia, has a population of about 6700 inhabitants. Perched on a hill, the town of Corte was illustrated in the story to becoming the historical and national capital of Corsica, including the Headquarters in political, administrative and cultural Corsica inspired by Pasquale Paoli, "father of the fatherland".
History of Corte
Founded in 1419 by Vicentellu Istra between valleys of Tavignanu and Restonica, the city of Corte was illustrated in 1745 during a famous battle, which saw the advent of a revolutionary hero Corsican Jean Pierre Gaffory, who led his troops to victory in this famous battle.
After this battle, the city of Corte became the symbol of Corsican nationalism! A few years later, the city of Corte became the cultural, political and administrative Corsican capital. This "new nation" founded by Pasquale Paoli, had a constitution which was largely inspired by the elite of the 18th century. The city hosted the Museum of Corsica, and a university, which made this city a very special city for the Corsicans.
