Tourist information:
The city of Saint-François in Guadeloupe is the rising resort of the island. For many decades, the drought that prevails here has prevented the settlers to settle there. However, it has now become a major asset for St. Francis on a tourist point of view since the resort has the lowest rainfall of the island. In addition, the beautiful beaches and unspoiled natural beauty of St. Francis add to its strengths.
History
Saint-François was inhabited until very late, at the end of the seventeenth century, as it was suffering from too much dryness. The first colonists who settled there nevertheless experienced great prosperity through the cultivation of sugar. At the abolition of slavery, many Indians who had come from Pondicherry and Calcutta to work in the fields chose to stay there and live in St. Francis, which explains that one out of three residents of the city has an Indian origin.
Fishing activity had long regulated the lives of St. Francis inhabitants. This is why the city is still considered as a fishing village. Today, fishermen still work in the new port of Saint-François, enjoying the protection given by the large dam.
Tourism
In recent years, St. Francis has known a strong tourism development. The city, which had long remained the mere rival of Sainte-Anne, is now more popular thanks to its beautiful beaches, marina, golf course, airport, or its natural environment.

- The Anse Tarare is a wild creek frequented by nudists who appreciate its isolation and clear waters.
