The park of Monsouris was built on the model of the park of the Buttes-Chaumont. The construction of a park here corresponded with the idea of Haussmann to place a park at each cardinal point.
Alphand built the park on the site of an ex-quarry between 1867 and 1878.
The old railways which crossed the park were buried.

The engineer Alphand used the relief to make a varied landscape. An artificial lake was built while caverns and mountains still ornament the landscape completed with lawn and woods.

The parks holds 1 400 trees whose majority is more than a hundred-year-old : ginko bilobas, American giant sequoias, Oriental plane trees…
The landscape is decorated with various bronze or stone sculptures by Desca, Bouchard and others.

Since 1947 the park is equipped with a meteorological observatory which provides information about climatic conditions in Paris. The park holds the privilege to shelter different bird species as well as a bandstand with concerts from May to September.
Children will appreciate the puppet theatre, the rollers track, and swings.
