L'auteur dramatique Adolphe Philippe "Dennery" d'Ennery (1811-1899), anoblit par Napoléon III, lègue à l'Etat en 1894 l'hôtel particulier et les 6296 objets essentiellement japonais qu'il contient, réunis par Mme d'Ennery auprès des marchands parisiens.

Hôtel particulier construit en 1875 par Mme Desgranges pour y présenterses collections d'Extrême-Orient . Le musée conserve son cachet d'origine.

Collection d'un millier de "netsuke" seul bijoux japonais autorisé aux hommes de 2ème rang - les guerriers samouraï constituant le 1er rang. Collection de céramique, jade, ivoire et laque. Les collections illustrent la vie quotidienne et les croyances populaires de la Chine et du Japon, entre le XVIème siècle et la fin du XIXème siècle.
