Symbol of Provence, the Sainte-Victoire mountain which culminates 1011 meters high is an exceptional place to hike and explore.

On its south side, the Sainte-Victoire mountain has a steep hill, accessible only by rock climbers. The facade offers a great contrast between the red color of the base and the white limestone of the upper wall.

In the north, we may find oaks and pines forests as well as most hiking trails. They are accessible to all except children under 10 years or so since the gradients are quite steep. Once on top, about 1000 meters above sea level, the view on the whole Provence is stunning and worth the effort.

Hiking trails are completely open in winter but are restricted in summer because of fire risk. From July to mid-September, hiking are then marked and regulated.

A road also offers a tour of the Sainte-Victoire . It offers beautiful views of the mountain and its region, as well as many starting points for walks. The road is a way to discover the small villages that line the Montagne Sainte-Victoire.

It is not possible to evoke the Montagne Sainte-Victoire without mentioning Cézanne. The painter came there several times between 1902 and 1906 to paint 11 oil paintings and 17 watercolors. He settled on the Marguerite path, facing the mountain and hid from passers-by through parasols. He died in 1906 nearby after painting in a storm.
