Champ de Mars Paris : Paris Tourism

Avenue de la Motte Piquet 75007 Paris 200 years old, the Champ de Mars was used for military trainings during the 18th Century. It had also been a place of popular protests during the Revolution. The Champ de Mars welcomed universal exhibitions during the Second Empire. Everybody remembers the exhibition of 1889, for the centenary of the Revolution, when people discovered the Eiffel Tower. Between 1833 and 1860 the Jockey Club transformed the garden into a racecourse. Despite its success and atmosphere, the racecourse has been transferred to Longchamp. Today the garden is open night and day to the public. It is encircled by numerous famous monuments like the Unesco, the Eiffel tower, the Military School… This 240 000-square-meter garden became one of the most popular leisure places in the capital. It contains a music scene, a vast collection of flowers and trees, and a puppet theatre for children.
