The abbaye of saint victor |
Description
Jean Cassien founded the abbey in the 5th Century on the banks of the old port. It was constructed over the tomb of Saint Victor, a Roman martyr who died in the 3rd Century. The summit of its importance within the circle of Christians was between the 11th and the 18th centuries. It was fortified during the 14th century by the Pope of Avignon, Urbain V. In February the “fête de la chandeleur” is a good occasion to celebrate important ceremonies.
