Description
Resembling an Arc de Triomphe, the Gate of Aix marks the entrance of Marseille. It was erected by Penchaud in the 19th Century to the glory of Republic. 8 military statues used to dominate the monument, but have now been destroyed.
The inscription on the front reads: "to the thankful Republic".
