Jardin des Tuileries Paris : Paris Tourism

The « Jardin des Tuileries » streches out from the « Place du Carroussel » to the Place de la Concorde ». In the 16th Century, Catherine de Medicis owned this ground and asked Le Notre to make a French garden out of it. It was one of the first European gardens to be opened to the public. It provided chair rentals, cafes, benches and bandstands. The place was popular until the 19th Century. The jardin du Carroussel was created after the fire in the palace of the jardin des tuileries. Since then there have been two gardens. The jardin du Carroussel and the jardin des Tuileries consist of two basins linked together by an alley ornamented with hundreds of sculptures of which 18 were made by Maillol. Children play with boats they can rent near the large basins.
